From Waste to Wealth: Sustainable Manure Production and Horticulture Development Our initiative focuses on transforming agricultural and livestock waste into high-quality organic manure while promoting sustainable horticulture production in Northern Malawi. We are addressing challenges of declining soil fertility, high fertilizer costs, low agricultural productivity, and post-harvest losses that affect smallholder farmers. By collecting and processing animal manure and organic waste, we produce environmentally friendly soil amendments that improve crop yields, soil health, and water retention.
What debate or online activity would you like to propose to your peers?
Can Regenerative Agriculture and Circular Economy Practices Transform Food Security and Youth Employment in Africa? This debate will explore how communities can turn agricultural waste into valuable resources, improve soil health, reduce post-harvest losses, create jobs for young people, and build climate-resilient food systems. Key discussion questions: How can agricultural waste be converted into economic opportunities? What role should young people play in regenerative agriculture? How can communities reduce dependence on imported fertilizers? What are the most effective strategies for reducing post-harvest losses? How can local knowledge and innovation strengthen food security? What partnerships are needed to scale successful community-led initiatives? Online Activity: Waste to Wealth Challenge -Participants share examples from their communities of how waste materials are being transformed into useful products, services, or income-generating activities. Members can post photos, stories, lessons learned, and ideas for collaboration, creating a knowledge-sharing network across Africa and the Mediterranean. This activity encourages peer learning, innovation, and the development of practical solutions for sustainable community development.
